“I have no fear of depth and a great fear of shallow living” - Anias Nin

I believe that we are more than what we are.

Humans are transcendental, our earth is mystifying and our universe is spellbinding. We may never truly understand the origins of our own complexity, but that primitive curiosity that burns inside our hearts keeps us questioning and discovering as much as we can. That’s what we do as humans - though recognising our multitude of imperfections, we have become a nation of pessimists, suffocating under the weight of the media and pressuring social views. As we grow in knowledge and understanding, we seem to have lost our trust and belief; blinded and unable to see any positivity in the world.

In jest, I often refer to myself as one of Peter Pan’s ‘Lost Boys’; terrified of passing time and refusing to let go of those freeing, blissfully unaware moments you felt as a child - still seeing the magic in the world around you in the simplest forms. The word Halcyon actually defines a ‘period of time in ones life that was considered idyllically happy and peaceful’, which is why I felt it was appropriate as a title. I strongly believe that our lives should be far more than just work, relations and paying the bills. They should be filled with that same naive wonderment, fantastical experiences, hilarity and happiness - no matter how old we are.
I want to inject a little magic back into the world.

Halcyon is an illustrious allegory of ideas, writings and wisdoms trailing my quest for the wealth of contentment; becoming rich by experience, not by money. I don’t want to label this a blog or a diary - but more of an ongoing public project, capturing chapters of my journey (and others) to defy that paved road of normality. This is off the beaten track, through the woods, over the mountains and out the other side. With a creative outlook, optimism and an undying desire to pursue seemingly intangible dreams, this is my universe of teachings, experiences and adventures, all under one little heading.

Who am I? I am the creative director to my own life. I want to create a stimulating platform that provokes and celebrates everything that it means to be the innovative human; I want to inspire others - as I have been inspired - to be their weirdly wonderful selves and positively enhance our ways of life emotionally, mentally and physically.

ABOUT MOONWALK

Home to the Moonwalk Adventure Journals, Halcyon is not only my headspace, but also my travel diary for all the exhilarating ventures yet to come! I am currently planning a very big trip which I am extremely excited about, so I’ll be able to blog about my journey and share the experiences (it’s also a lot easier than writing individual emails to send out to family and friends too!). So watch this space.

What’s in the name? I do love Michael Jackson, but moonwalking became a bit of an inside joke with me - it was my show and tell party-trick and during my time studying abroad in Italy, it often helped me to make friends at student social gatherings - no matter how embarrassing that may seem, to me, that was a fun way to introduce myself - alongside some really awful jokes. I am always dancing, it’s my signature thing - like Happy Feet. I even got nicknamed ‘dancer girl’ by some of the other foreign students, so it embodies that element of humour and a couple of happy memories.

The moon is also a very sacred celestial symbol to me, because of my family. In particular my Gran - she has this beautiful saying that when she looks up at the moon she tells it that she loves us, in the hope that when we also look up at the moon, we know she is thinking about us - wherever we are in the world. For my 21st birthday she bought me a silver necklace with a moon charm that says ‘love you to the moon and back’ on it which is almost always hanging around my neck. I don’t know if she will ever understand how much that means to me.

In general, the word moonwalk derives from the act of man walking on the moon (plain and simple), but I see it in a far more mystical light - which is why I wanted it to represent me walking the earth! I am not just travelling the world, nor am I merely moving across it - but I am happily, fearlessly, and blissfully moonwalking through it. Enjoy!
