I
cannot believe this is my fourth week in Milan, it feels like I have been here
forever yet at the same time it’s going so fast. I’ve met some wonderful people
from all over the world through the Erasmus society – Argentina, Sweden,
Estonia, France, Germany… I’m learning so many things about other students’
culture. What makes the whole experience that bit more special is that we’re
all in the same boat. Wherever we originated from, we are all strangers in a
beautiful yet bizarre city all eager to delve into the Italian lifestyle.
We
had our first celebration of many last week as it was my 20th
birthday! It was a fun
night of chomping on several delicious cakes and trying not to pull disgusted
faces at the traditional Italian shots our apartment owners made us drink! We
ended up hopping onto the tram and scooting around the city centre to see the
Cathedral lit up in the moonlight. It was that pinnacle moment when I realised
just how lucky I was to be experiencing what I was.
This
week we also began our studies at the Politecnico University and the students in
my Fashion Lab group are all very friendly and speak moderately good English
which makes my life a lot easier as our teachers don’t! We are working in
groups to design and create a tailored jacket themed to the uniform of a
futuristic train crew. I have been appointed designer of the group so I need to
sharpen my pencils!
